Stanford women’s basketball head coach Tara VanDerveer was named a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2011 on Monday in Houston during the Final Four festivities in Texas. The enshrinement process will take place in August in Springfield, Massachusetts, and will include the other nine members of the class:
- Chris Mullin
- Dennis Rodman
- Tex Winter
- Artis Gilmore
- Herb Magee
- Reece “Goose” Tatum
- Tom Sanders
- Arvydas Sabonis
- Teresa Edwards
In lieu of recapitulating the various honors and statistics that VanDerveer has accumulated thus far in her career, suffice it to say that she is one of just 6 women’s college coaches to have won over 800 games, has won 2 national championships, and is one of the most influential college coaches in the history of the women’s game. She was recently named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s collegiate coach of the year for the 2010-11 season.
