The top end of the conference looked awfully good this week. Most notably, Arizona topped #9 Iowa and jumped into the top 15 in the national polls. Stanford and Oregon continue to make statements in each of their contests, and UCLA made a surprising recovery to beat #25 Houston. Cal looked horrible in an overwhelming loss to WAC-member Nevada, and the Golden Bears have a big problem at quarterback. Kevin Riley simply did not perform well (1 touchdowns, 3 interceptions). Nevada’s QB, senior Colin Kaepernick, played an outstanding game for the Wolf Pack, and he should join the conversation of Heisman candidates.
Oregon State–our preseason favorite to win the conference and play in the Rose Bowl–barely beat Louisville, and USC continues to win in underwhelming fashions. This week, the Trojans barely got past the average-at-best Minnesota Golden Gophers. It may not be easy being green, but it’s harder being gold.
