Here’s the skinny on former members of the Cardinal and their performances in Week 1 of the NFL season:
- Everyone’s favorite running back, Toby Gerhart of the Minnesota Vikings, was inactive for the team while he recovered from a minor knee injury. Reporters in Minneapolis claim that the rookie should be ready to play this coming Sunday against Miami. Expect Gerhart to serve as superstar Adrian Peterson’s backup and get several touches per game.
- Wide receiver Greg Camarillo, also of the Vikings, made the most athletic play of any Stanford alumnus currently in the pros. Check out his leaning-back, leaping grab against the Saints on Thursday night. With Sidney Rice out and Percy Harvin suffering from migraines, Camarillo should see a good number of passes once he becomes accustomed to Minnesota’s playbook and America’s most hated quarterback.
- Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe, who is a frontrunner for funniest profile picture in the NFL, collected 8 tackles and a forced fumble on Sunday against Arizona. Atogwe also has the coolest name of anyone on this list.

Browns tight end Evan Moore caught 3 passes for 87 yards and was the Cleveland/Tampa Bay matchup’s leading receiver. Moore joined Camarillo in the Stanford TE’s that Made Big Plays in Week 1 Club. Needless to say, membership is quite exclusive.
- Quarterback Trent Edwards played a mediocre game against the Dolphins on Sunday. Edwards was 18-34 passing for 139 yards and a score, but he kept the game close. Unfortunately for the former Cardinal and quickly-becoming-irrelevant starter for the Buffalo Bills, the Fins won, 15-10.
- Rookie defensive end Erik Lorig was released by the Tamp Bay Buccaneers today.
- Rookie tight end Jim Dray returned to practice for the Cardinals yesterday. The practice was Dray’s first since getting injured in summer training camp.
The Daily Axe game ball goes to Atogwe. Moore also put up a valiant effort, but the combination of Atogwe’s performance, name, and pitiful team gave him the slight edge.
